What in tarnation are pixels? Short for Picture Element, Pixels allow us to recognize various aspects of graphic images. For a more in depth explanation feel free to browse over to Wikipedia and read about Pixels.
So for our purposes as web page designers, image editing folks and the like, when you’re working with web pages, graphics, widths, heights, and everything that goes into making up a web page, you might want to try this handy tool – Pixel Ruler.
What is Pixel Ruler?
Pixel Ruler is an on-screen ruler that allows you to measure all the stuff that makes up a web page as far as pixels go. Want to know how wide a column is on a web page or an advertisement (like the ones on my blog over to the right) or the distance (pixel-wise) between objects? That’s what Pixel Ruler will do for you.
After firing up this FREE utility it floats over your screen ready to go into action when you need it. Right now the only thing that annoys me about it, is that you can’t minimize it. You move it out of the way if you’re not working with it for a while or shut it down.
The really nice feature about it is that you can rotate the ruler from a horizontal position to a vertical position and back. It also displays the pixel position on the ruler as you hover you mouse around it while measuring objects on a web page. You can also change the color of the ruler to blue, green or orange.
