Well, Problogger Darren Rowse and New Media Man Chris Garrett wrote a book called Problogger – Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income. You can download a preview of the book at the previous link.
So here’s my review of the preview. ๐
When I first saw that the book was coming out and the title contained “Secrets…”, I thought geez, just read Darren and Chris’ blogs and you’ll find quite a few secrets there. But, what I really liked about this preview to start with, is there are seven long pages of Darren detailing out how he started blogging and how it ultimately led to full time. This type of detail interests me. I could read even more about it.
Darren’s Road
Darren’s journey takes us from a hobby blogger to a full-time blogger as well as revealing lessons he’s learned along the way. Darren talks about the frame of mind he was in and the thoughts he had about working and blogging.
Chris’ Road
Chris was a programmer and I used to read some of his stuff way back when. When I first discovered ChrisG.com, I said to myself, this guy’s a programmer and has published books because I’ve read them. Chris walks us through how he became a blogger and some of the ways he makes money blogging.
Chapter One – Blogging for Money
This is the only chapter we get in this preview pdf, since it is a – preview. After a short introduction about what a blog is and some of the attributes of a blog, the authors jump into ways to making money with a blog. They also remind us that blogging is not a get-rich-quick scheme.
Here are some other sections from chapter one:
- Direct and Indirect Earning Methods
- Passive and Active Incom
- Blog Advertising
- Freelance Blogging
- and more
Traffic
It’s important to have traffic so your blog can earn money. Darren and Chris discuss traffic as a way to measure a blog’s success. Various types of traffic are defined and discussed – unique visitors, views, page views, hits, etc. The different kinds of subscribers are discussed and why they’re beneficial. There is also discussion on blog comments, linking, search engines, etc.
There are web resources listed at the end of chapter one that you can check out, which is always good to have other resources to help in your blogging endeavor. The first chapter ends with an exercise.
Looks like there will be tips at the end of each chapter as well. I’m looking forward to the book. The preview itself is full of tangible tidbits for bloggers.
Darren’s Twitter Question
By the way, in a Twitter Tweet last week Darren Rowse asked, “Why Do You Love Twitter?” He took the responses and made a video you can watch here. Pretty cool and nice of Darren to do. My response is about 1/4 to a 1/3 of the way through the video. Check it out.
Win, Win, Win
Want to win a book? Author Chris Garrett over at ChrisG.com lists Five Way to Win the ProBlogger Book. Check it out.
You can also subscribe by email to Darren’s blog at Problogger to try and win a copy of the book.
More to come when the book hits my door step. ๐
